The MSc Product Innovation and Entrepreneurship degree at Aberystwyth University is designed to appeal to anyone from any discipline who wishes to develop their skills and confidence in commercialising their ideas. Throughout the programme, you will develop high-level skills in the areas of innovation, entrepreneurship and management, and will learn how to manage, create and deliver value from product innovation. On completion of the course, you will have gained a detailed understanding of how to create commercial differentiation and succeed at securing investments.

Typical Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements Normally, an undergraduate degree at 2:2 or above. However. Candidates with HND + significant and appropriate experience may be allowed to entre the programme. Each applicant will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

English Language Requirements IELTS 6.0 with minimum 5.5 in each component, or equivalent

Other Requirements Applicants are encouraged to submit an up-to-date CV as part of their application.

Course Overview

MSc Product Innovation and Entrepreneurship focuses on building the essential skills that facilitate the commercialisation of product ideas and the acquisition of financial backing. You will learn how to grow effective teams and develop business plans that can detail product commercial differentiation within a market, product costs, operational and marketing costs, and risks. 

This degree will equip you with an understanding of what can be patented and how to protect your ideas. You will undertake modules in product innovation, capital investments, strategic marketing, project management and supply chain systems. Following completion of the taught modules, you will complete an Investor Report and deliver an assessed investor pitch to ensure that you have developed the necessary skills to enable you to secure keys funds in order to grow a business.

This programme has been designed to be accessible by students who have graduated from almost any discipline. It does not require detailed technical knowledge in any one field, only on what can be patented.

Teaching & Learning

MSc Product Innovation and Entrepreneurship will equip you with an understanding of what product innovation means, how to protect it and how innovation can make an impact if correctly managed and exploited.

By studying this course, you will:

  • acquire the high-level management skills necessary to identify, protect and manage patentable ideas
  • acquire and synthesise knowledge and expertise in the significance of commercial differentiation via product innovation
  • explore key concepts in logistics and supply chain management
  • develop an understanding of the role of entrepreneurs and investors, and how to present information in a way that maximises successful investments and collaborations
  • explore business planning and the analysis of business systems, including the application of economic concepts in providing solutions to managerial problems
  • acquire project management skills and apply these techniques to create detailed project plans
  • evaluate strategies for marketing management in competitive consumer and business markets
  • evaluate mechanisms of communicating and delivering value in markets
  • demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the essential features of a successful investor business proposal.

Assessment

Assessment takes the form of reports, case studies, individual and group presentations, and a Dragons’ Den style investor pitch.
